Sunrise Hall Table
$6400 (Sold)
52” long, 11” deep, 31” tall.
This hall table with cabinet is the second in my current series of “Mountainscape” furniture. I don’t get to spend nearly as much time in the mountains as I’d like to these days, so I feel the need to surround myself with imagery from my favorite places.
This piece is one of a kind. There is no other like it and there never will be. My wife is a painter, and originally painted the image that inspired the marquetry design for this piece.
The primary species is Curly Claro Walnut for the table top and case. The legs are African Mahogany and the marquetry design is made from wood veneer species including Curly Koa, Curly Maple, Gaboon, Satinwood, Padauk, and Black Walnut. The case is joined with hand-cut dovetails. I created custom matching Curly Koa door pulls so they wouldn’t detract from the scenic design. I started with 7 layers of veneer and laminated them with alternating grain direction for stability, and shaped them in a way that was complimentary to the sun. The legs are offset from the case with bronze attachment points so give it an airy feeling. The doors are attached with Blum soft-close adjustable European hinges.
